About the Host
Hi, I’m Ken Beller, your unlikely host for this series.
I’m not a chef, doctor, or dietician.
But I’ve made the journey from omnivore to fully plant-based.
I was born into a cattle ranching family, grew up hunting and fishing, and ate a meat-heavy diet for decades. But my health started to suffer.
I grew up on my family's cattle ranch.
Then in 2001 I met my wife, who was a vegetarian.
Through her, I learned about the benefits of plant-based eating and shifted over to it. In the last picture, my wife and I are hosting a plant-based food tasting, with veggies from our garden.
Through the years, I’ve tried thousands of plant-based foods.
Eventually, I found what I believe are the best. But getting to that point wasn’t easy.
Now, I want to make it easy for you by sharing the restaurant dishes, store products, resources, and “hacks” in my latest work–a plant-based swaps video series. I’ve done the work, so you don’t have to!
To create the series, I drew on my certification in plant-based nutrition from Cornell University, plus my background as an engineer, public speaker, and my experience teaching cooking classes and designing and presenting educational programs for government agencies, non-profit organizations, and Fortune 500 companies.
I’m also a writer and lead author of The Consistent Consumer and Great Peacemakers, winner of more than 30 awards and endorsed by 3 presidents and 3 Nobel Peace Prize winners.
More about my professional background is on the Near Bridge website and in my full bio.
